Brazil should have 5G networks operating in the 3.5GHz band in about 1,610 cities by the end of this semester, regulator Anatel said.
On Tuesday, the supervisory body authorized the use of the assigned band in 78 other municipalities near state capitals or cities of more than 500,000 residents. With this action, mobile operators can activate networks in these locations.
The decision was announced after EAF and Gaispi, the technical groups that oversee 5G deployment and interference problems with free satellite services in contiguous blocks of the 3.5GHz band, issued the decision after the decision was announced.
As Anatel President Carlos Paiguri told BNamericas in a recent interview, the regulator intends to submit a 5G tender schedule to activate networks in as many locations as possible. However, the early launch will be determined by the operators.
Currently, 140 municipalities which concentrate 38.5% of the population are enabled to receive 5G through the 3.5GHz band, according to Anatel.
