The trend toward a more strategic CIO role has accelerated, Logicalis notes. Along these lines, the company asserts, “CIOs’ expectations have never been higher, but budgets are tight.”
Today, 41% of CEOs have some level of responsibility for business strategy, while 81% say they spend more time innovating. This finding reflects that 81% of CEOs lead initiatives that go beyond traditional IT management.
IT managers are increasingly turning to managed service providers (MSPs) to deliver cost-effective services that provide innovation, efficiency and access to much-needed skills. Thus, 46% of CIOs today are measured by their ability to provide new and innovative services.

In addition, almost all CEOs are in the process of digital transformation, with 57% of CEOs saying that creating and running new digital services is their number one responsibility this year.
On the other hand, a modern CIO is likely to play an important role in shaping business strategy, rather than simply focusing on growth. 80% of CEOs say strategy will become a bigger part of their role in the next two years.
In the face of growing cyber threats, budget constraints, and skill shortages, CIOs are building new partnerships with trusted MSPs to drive innovation and digital resilience.
With all of this, CIOs have a role to play in orchestrating transformation, helping organizations rethink the way they do business, creating new revenue streams and transforming service delivery.
